Investment Trusts in General
- Investment trusts are not deposits. Neither principal nor yield is therefore guaranteed.
- Investment trusts are not covered by the deposit insurance system. Investment trusts sold by the Bank will be purchased through Comprehensive Securities Accounts at SBI Securities Co., Ltd. or Monex, Inc. (SBI Securities Co., Ltd. and Monex, Inc. may collectively be referred to as “Entrusted Financial Instruments Transaction Operators,” or either of the two companies may be referred to as the “Entrusted Financial Instruments Transaction Operator” depending on the context of this document hereinafter), meaning that the investment trusts are covered by the Investor Protection Funds. (Monex, Inc. calls Comprehensive Securities Accounts “Comprehensive Securities Transaction Accounts,” however, this document calls all accounts of Entrusted Financial Instruments Transaction Operators “Comprehensive Securities Accounts.”)
- Investment trusts invest mainly in domestic and foreign securities. The principal amount invested may therefore fall below its original value due to a fall in the standard price (or the net asset value in the case of foreign investment trusts) caused by fluctuation in the prices of stocks or bonds incorporated in the portfolio as a result of changes in interest rates, changes in foreign exchange rates, changes in the issuer’s credit standing and changes in the political and economic situation inside and outside Japan.
- The value of foreign currency-denominated investment trusts converted into yen may fall below their original value due to foreign exchange rate fluctuations even if their foreign currency-denominated value has not fallen below their original value.
- Past performance does not guarantee future performance. Profits and losses from investment are all attributable to the customer who purchased the investment trust.
- Investment trust transactions incur fees and expenses which will be paid by customers directly or indirectly. The examples of fees and expenses are shown below. Their rates and upper limits, etc. cannot be provided in advance because fees and expenses may differ by a. the Entrusted Financial Instruments Transaction Operator selected by the customer, b. the transaction type designated by the Entrusted Financial Instruments Transaction Operator, c. the fund purchased, d. the amount purchased, e. performance and f. the customer’s holding period of the fund. Please check prospectuses including their supplementary documents and websites of the Bank and Entrusted Financial Instruments Transaction Operators for fees and expenses. SBI Shinsei Bank may gain as compensation part of the fees and expenses paid by the customer to the Entrusted Financial Instruments Transaction Operator, etc.
- At the time of application: The application fee for a financial instruments brokerage transaction is free of charge whether the application is made over the Bank’s counter or via the internet. However, some funds may charge an amount retained in trust assets at the time of application. Customers applying for transactions at SBI Shinsei Bank Money Plaza may be charged application fee to be paid to SBI Securities Co., Ltd. Please check SBI Securities Co., Ltd.’s website for details.
- During investment: Investment management costs (i.e., trust/custodial fees) will be deducted from trust assets every day. In addition, audit fees will be deducted from trust assets during the holding period, and brokerage fees and custody fees for incorporated assets will be deducted from trust assets at the time of trading securities.
- At the time of redemption: Some funds charge amounts retained in trust assets and redemption fees.

- Regarding the redemption (cancellation/repurchase) of investment trusts, some funds have a closed period for applications or accept applications only on specific dates. It may also take some time until redemption is completed.
