Account Inquiries for Inheritance
Please apply after confirming and agreeing to below if you wish to make an account inquiry for inheritance based on the Act on Management of Deposit and Savings Accounts by Use of Individual Numbers Based on the Will of Depositors (Account Management Act).

Account Inquiries for Inheritance
An heir (including universal legatee) may request the Deposit Insurance Corporation*1 for information on deposits and savings accounts held at all financial institutions in the name of the decedent*2.
*1 The Deposit Insurance Corporation entrusts acceptance of the application to financial institutions.
*2 Information is limited to deposit accounts held at the Deposit Insurance Corporation’s entrusted financial institution that have numbering completed (accounts registered with the decedent’s Individual Number).
However, you cannot request information about accounts at specific financial institutions designated by the Digital Agency. For details on specific financial institutions, please confirm the Digital Agency website.
The Individual Number of the decedent does not need to be presented at the time of application, as the Deposit Insurance Corporation will obtain this information from the Japan Agency for Local Authority Information System.
Inquiry Fee
The inquiry fee is 5,060 yen (including consumption tax) per application.
- If you would like an invoice (evidence for the consumption tax), please request issuance at the time of payment.
- The fee, etc., will not be returned even if there are defects or errors in the application form.
Application
1. Application can be made at a financial institution (Deposit Insurance Corporation’s entrusted financial institution) even if you are not their customer.
- If you wish to inquire about accounts of multiple decedents, an application must be made for each decedent.
- Notice of the result of the inquiry will take about one month from the application.
- The service covers inquiries within 10 years from the death of the decedent.
- The decedent who have moved overseas (those who have moved overseas and do not have a resident record) are not eligible.
- The application cannot be canceled, corrected, or amended, etc., after acceptance.
2. At SBI Shinsei Bank, application can be made at the following:
If the applicant does not have an account with SBI Shinsei Bank and pays the inquiry fee with cash:
- Branch office (only at branch offices that handle cash. Cash transactions are available until 15:00.)
If the applicant has an account with SBI Shinsei Bank and pays the inquiry fee with transfer from the account:
- Branch office
- Postal mail

1. Documents that verify the fact that the decedent is deceased*1
e.g.: Copy of a resident record
*1 Documents that state the following information will be required.
If a document does not include all of the information, please prepare documents to fill in the missing information.
- The fact that the decedent has deceased
- The name and date of birth of the decident
- The address of the decident (The address as stated on the resident record. Not the registered domicile.)
All the documents must be original. We will verify and make a copy of the original documents submitted.
For acceptance of postal mails, the original documents will be returned in about a week via post using simplified registration.
2. A document that indicates that the applicant is an heir (including universal legatee), or executor of the will, etc.

1. If the applicant(heir)does not have an account with SBI Shinsei Bank and pays the inquiry fee with cash:
- 5,060 yen in cash (including consumption tax)
- Identification documents of the applicant (Please prepare either (1) or (2) below as identification documents).
(1) One identification document with a face photo (original)
My number card (front) / Japanese driver's license / Japanese driving history certificate (issued after April 1, 2012) / Residence card (valid) / Special permanent resident certificate / Government agencies issued documents including the name, residence, and date of birth
(2) Any two of the non-photo identification documents (original)
Various health insurance cards / residence cards/special permanent resident certificates, etc. / National pension handbook (basic pension number notification is not applicable), etc.
- We can also accept one item of identification document (2) above and one item of identification document below.

2. If the applicant (heir) has an PowerFlex account with SBI Shinsei Bank and pays the inquiry fee with transfer from the account:

3. If the applicant(heir) has an account which is other than a PowerFlex account, or If the applicant is other than an heir (attorney with power of attorney, executor of a will, etc.), the Contact Center will contact you by phone, so please enter the preferred time and other required information on the Call Back Reservation Form.

1. If the applicant (heir) have an PowerFlex account with SBI Shinsei Bank, we will send the following additional documents required when applying via postal mail to your home. Please enter the name and address of the recipient in the following Inheritance Account Inquiry Form.

If the applicant(heir)is in a hurry, please click and print the below application form and send to the following address together with necessary public documents (inheritance verification documents, etc.). The customer must attach a stamp in this case.

Call Back Reservation FormNotice of Results
The Deposit Insurance Corporation will send the notice of results to the address (in Japan) of the heir (applicant) stated in the application form via sealed postcard using simplified registration.
- The content of the notice is limited to deposit accounts that have numbering completed (accounts registered with the decedent’s Individual Number).
- The account information notified will include the name of the financial institution and the branch office, the type of savings and deposits, and the account number, etc. (It will not include the account balance and Invidividual Number of the decedent).
- Depending on the contents of the notice, the notice may be sent in two or more separate mails.
- In case the Individual Number of the decedent cannot be confirmed with the Japan Agency for Local Authority Information System (in case the information presented concerning the decedent was not the latest information, etc.), such fact will be notified (fees will not be returned in this case).
- If “Not applicable” is shown in the results, it will include cases where such account actually did not exist at the relevant financial institution, as well as cases where the relevant financial institution did not provide the result by the deadline of the inquiry.
