Safe Dealings
AttentionBeware of fraudulent e-mails and spyware.

Fraudulent e-mails (phishing/spoofing), claiming to be from financial institutions and used to collect sensitive personal information from customers have become a major issue, as has spyware (unwanted software) that gets into computers.
Recently, there have been cases where customers installed software from CD-ROMs which was sent to them seemingly from legitimate financial institutions. However personal information such as PIN was collected and the money was illicitly transmitted from the customer's accounts. Please note that SBI Shinsei Bank will never send you software on a CD-ROM.
We urge you to read the information on this page carefully to protect against financial crimes.

Phishing/spoofing

Phishing or spoofing involving fraudulent emails which claim to be from financial institutions such as banks is becoming a problem. These emails often ask for the customer's PIN and password for "confirmation purposes" or lead to a counterfeit website to have the user enter sensitive personal information.

SBI Shinsei Bank never sends emails to ask you for or notify you of your PIN or password. If you receive a suspicious email of this sort, we urge you to delete it right away, and never to enter important information, such as your PIN, in a fictitious site or send it by return email. When you enter your personal information, please make sure you are in the genuine SBI Shinsei Bank site.

As a reinforced countermeasure against phishing sites (counterfeit websites, to which you may be led by a phishing email in order to have you log in and enter your account number, password, etc.), which are increasing all over the world, SBI Shinsei Bank employs "RSA FraudAction ®" services of RSA Security Inc. RSA FraudAction ® promptly closes down phishing sites, which target SBI Shinsei Bank, to prevent the expansion of damage.

* What is spyware?

Spyware is a kind of software which is downloaded and installed without the knowledge (or the consent) of the user, and which steals the information and personal data on the computer. One example of malicious spyware is "keylogger," which forwards the information entered through the keyboard to third parties at random.
However, not all spyware is malicious; there is a type which does not intend to steal personal information, but has a disclosed security policy statement and has its purpose clearly stated in the license agreement.
